L'Amour Thy Curls: Recipe of the Week
For this recipe, I will be talking about Bentonite clay hair mask. I've heard a lot of things about the clay mask and I just thought I'll try it out for myself.
It is said that bentonite clay is for cleansing and detoxifying, it has the ability to remove build up from hair and scalp. It also helps with conditioning, shine, softness and definition.
You can look on YouTube, Google or Pinterest for different recipes on this hair mask. For me, I used NOW solutions bentonite clay that I ordered off of amazon.
a glass mason jar
a plastic, wooden or rubber spoon
1/2 cup of the bentonite clay
3 to 4 tablespoons of an oil mixture (olive oil, tea tree oil, peppermint oil, pomegranate seed oil, almond oil, jojoba oil and castor oil)
1 to 2 tablespoons of honey
4 to 6 tablespoons of Apple cider vinegar
3 to 4 tablespoons of water
I added everything in the jar and mixed it until it was a smooth mixture. Make sure you are starting off with clean, damp or wet hair. I sectioned my hair in fours and applied it like you would if you were putting a perm/relaxer in your hair, start at the roots first. Keep a spray bottle on hand, for when your hair starts to dry up. After completely costing the hair, cover with a plastic cap for 30 minutes to an hour.
When rinsing out the clay make sure you have fully rinised out the clay. After I'm done rinsing the clay, I follow up with a deep conditioner. It's not recommended, you can just do a regular conditioner. Let it sit and rinse out and you're all done. Soft, moisturized and defined hair.
Since this clay removes build up, I only do this once or so a month, to be like a clarifying wash.
